Brothers and Sisters,
Don’t let Jeff Bezos turn North Andover into North Amazon!
For 50 years, the 110 acres of land in North Andover that Amazon wants to take over housed a business that provided good-paying, middle-class jobs and benefits to area residents. Amazon, known for its low wages, wants to provide workers today with the exact opposite.
Amazon needs to be held accountable for how it treats our community, the environment, and its workers. We want to make sure that Amazon’s presence here benefits the community. That starts with advocating for workers’ rights and how workers are treated both INSIDE the facility and when BUILDING the facility.
Amazon should build their complex in an ethical way, using developers and contractors who will ensure safety, contractually guarantee equity, and allow workers a voice on the job, so they can speak up if they see bad practices regarding COVID-19 or any other health and safety matter.
What do we want? We need a comprehensive, responsible employer agreement from Amazon before it’s too late.
We already know that Amazon has hurt many communities throughout the United States. We must not let North Andover be next. Please join your Sisters and Brothers on Monday, March 1 to help hold Amazon accountable.
