Last fall, Local 537 members heard the great news that workers from Atalian Suburban Mechanical in Braintree and Stoughton, Massachusetts voted to join our union. Now, we’re pleased to share that we have reached a tentative agreement with Atalian. In the next few weeks, we will ratify the contract and officially welcome 16 experienced pipefitters, HVAC-R technicians, and apprentices into Local 537!
As you can imagine, union organizing looks different in the time of COVID-19. Local 537 has risen to the challenge thanks to the leadership of Organizer Chris Brennan and the Atalian Mechanical team. Through socially distanced meetings in parking lots, Zoom calls, and other unconventional organizing tactics, our determination helped Atalian’s workers achieve a collective voice.
When our negotiations are ratified, they will represent Atalian Mechanical’s first-ever union contract. This partnership will open new doors for organizing across our region. Atalian’s locations in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island offer opportunities for Locals in those areas to forge new partnerships.
We are always humbled to represent workers as they make the choice to join together and organize. In these uncertain times, fighting for that right is more important than ever.
