ARI Fund Scholarship Application

We are pleased to announce that through a joint effort between Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors of Boston and Pipefitters’ Local 537, a grant of $30,000.00 (thirty thousand dollars) has been allocated for 30 (thirty) $1,000.00 (one thousand dollars) scholarships.

Fifteen scholarships will be given to applicants who have a parent or a spouse who is a union member of Pipefitters Local 537 Refrigeration Division and who is in the employ of an ARI Fund contributor. The remaining fifteen scholarships will be used for applicants who have a parent or spouse in the employ of an ARI Fund contributor who have no union affiliation.

The award may be used for tuition payments and/or living costs toward any accredited education program for the 2024-2025 academic year, including studies at the:

a. Full-time undergraduate level – college/university

b. Full-time technical school program

The applicant must be a graduating high school senior in 2024, or already have a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency, or already attending a full-time college/university, or a full-time tech school program.

ARI SCHOLARSHIP 2024/2025 APPLICATION

All applications for scholarships must be received no later than Friday, May 10, 2024. The drawing will be on May 16th at the ARI Membership meeting.

  • LU537 Members in good standing, seeking tuition assistance for an AS/BS Degree or Certificate Program from Wentworth Institute of Technology or another accredited University.
  • Children, grandchildren, and spouses of members of Pipefitters Local Union 537 may apply only if the member relation is in good standing.
  • Recipients must attend an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States as full-time students for the 2023-2024 school term year

  • This year our SMA 2024-2025 application for the Scholastic Merit Award Program is an ONLINE APPLICATION.
  • The Scholastic Merit Award Program is sponsored by New England Mechanical Contracting Industry Improvement Fund. Its purpose is to make funds for higher education available to the children of both labor and management employees of the Mechanical Contracting Industry. The Fund will award a number of one-time scholastic merit awards in the amount of $2,000. The top winner in the high school labor/management category will be awarded the Casey Memorial Award of $2,500. Winners must attend an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States, as full-time students, and may select any course of study. Whether or not you are selected, you may reapply for this scholarship annually up until your junior year of college.
  • Eligibility: Any children whose parent is an active journeyman member of a participating Local Union, and on whose behalf, contributions are currently being made by an employer to the New England Mechanical Contracting Industry Improvement Fund. Children must be planning to attend college in the Fall or are currently a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior in college, are eligible to apply for this Scholastic Merit Award.

    SMA 2024-2025 APPLICATION

Students must be a senior in high school and take the Labor History Exam. The deadline to apply is December 22, 2023. Labor History exam is administered online between February 5 and February 9, 2024.

Scholarships are available for United Association members and their dependents to assist with paying for expenses related to their education at an accredited college or university. This generally includes children, grandchildren, and spouses of United Association members who are in good standing who are dependent upon that UA member’s financial support and maintenance. In order to be eligible, an applicant must be a full-time student and awards must be used for education-related expenses for the 2024-2025 school year. Additional details on eligibility and award criteria are available in the application.

2024 Lou Sarno Memorial Scholarship

  • $4,000.00 ($1,000 x 4 years)

  • Eligibility: The member, child, grandchild or spouse of a local union member or employees of its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Fund, whose local union and its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Funds are dues paying members of the Massachusetts Coalition of Taft-Hartley Trust Funds (MCTHTF), and who is enrolled in or accepted as an undergraduate student by an accredited college or university is eligible to apply. The MCTHTF also sponsors the Colleen Sullivan Memorial Nursing Vocation Scholarship. Applicants may only apply for one of the two Coalition-sponsored scholarships.
  • Criteria: The applicant must provide an official copy of their current school transcript along with a 500-word (or more) essay: Discuss the role Unions play in protecting and sustaining Healthcare and Retirement Benefits.
  • All applications must be received by Friday, March 8, 2024.
  • Return applications in one of the following way:

  • Selection of the Scholarship Recipient:The Executive Board of the MCTHTF shall designate a scholarship selection committee of three or more people to review and select the scholarship recipient. All applicants are reviewed anonymously.

    The Committee will complete its review and selection on or before March 31, 2024 and make announcement of the selected recipient by April 1, 2024.

  • Scholarship Award Payment:The $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded annually to the recipient up until completion of their undergraduate degree but no more than four (4) consecutive years, and no more than $4,000.00. The scholarship recipient must provide the MCTHTF with a copy of the current and next semester tuition bill and official transcript as certification of eligibility. To continue to be eligible for the ongoing scholarship, recipient must be a student in good academic standing and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. If it is established that this award will adversely affect the financial aid of the recipient, the Executive Board may, at its discretion, allow the scholarship proceeds to defray non-tuition, education related expenses.

2024 Colleen Sullivan Memorial Nursing Vocation Scholarship

  • Eligibility: The member, child, grandchild or spouse of a local union member or employees of its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Fund, whose local union and its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Funds are dues paying members of the Massachusetts Coalition of Taft-Hartley Trust Funds (MCTHTF), and who is enrolled in or accepted as an undergraduate student by an accredited nursing program is eligible to apply. The MCTHTF also sponsors the Lou Sarno Memorial Scholarship for undergraduate studies. Applicants may only apply for one of the two Coalition-sponsored scholarships.
  • Criteria: The applicant must provide an official copy of their current school transcript along with a 500-word (or more) essay: Discuss your thoughts about Universal Health Care as it relates to the nursing profession.
  • All applications must be received by Friday, March 8, 2024.

For decades, Local 537 members have generously donated a portion of their pay towards our scholarship funds. These contributions have made a huge difference for many talented students as they pursue college study.
