Brothers and Sisters,

Today we pause to honor those among us who have dedicated their lives to defending our country. These heroes put on their uniforms and put their lives on the line for our freedoms. We are forever grateful for their service.

Prior to 1954, today was known as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I. We now observe Veterans Day in honor of those who have served in the armed forces and those who lost their lives in war.

While veterans are disciplined and highly trained, many face challenges starting careers when transitioning back to civilian life. At Pipefitters Local 537, we believe our veterans deserve the very best and actively work to ease this transition. We participate in the United Association’s Veterans in Piping program, which provides free career training for military service members. Local 537 also proudly has many veterans from Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) among our ranks. H2H is a national nonprofit organization that has paired over 25,000 service members with high-quality union construction jobs. If you know someone who is returning from military service, I encourage you to spread the word about these outstanding programs.

Local 537’s commitment to our veterans extends beyond providing skills training and career opportunities. Each year, we make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides injured veterans with mental and physical health services on their journey to recovery.

On behalf of Local 537, thank you, veterans, for your service and patriotism to our country. We are forever grateful for the sacrifices you and your families have made to keep us safe.

In Solidarity,

Tom Kerr
