Computer-Aided Design

During their fourth year, refrigeration / HVAC apprentices learn how to program and navigate building automation systems in the computer lab. Using computer technology, apprentices explore how to control temperatures in and throughout an entire building, including the running mechanical room, the boiler, chillers, pumps, and cooling towers.

During their fifth year, apprentices learn building information modeling (BIM) and Computer-aided design (CAD). Apprentices learn CAD software to design digital 2D and 3D simulations that can help you visualize construction concepts. Similarly, apprentices learn to use BIM software to gather specific data relating to the design, construction, and operation of a building to produce a comprehensive 3D model or simulation that gives architects, engineers, and construction professionals the insight and tools to efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.
